Welcome to the GYN Tumor Board at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital!
Tumor Board will be held on the 4th Wednesday of every month from 4:30pm-5:30pm. This will be held virtually via the OncoLens (zoom based) platform. Oncolens is a cloud-based platform which you may access from either you laptop or through a mobile app. The tool is a repository for case information, static images, and pathology slides. During the presentation we also share live radiologic images.
Great Lakes Cancer Care (GLCC) encompasses all of Kaleida (including WNYUA, CCWNY, GLMI, GPPC), ECMC and UBMD, and as some of you may be aware, it is a goal of all the hospitals within GLCC to pursue Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation. This quality program is nationally recognized by organizations, including the National Cancer Institute, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, National Quality Forum, American Cancer Society, and The Joint Commission, and represents cancer programs’ commitment to providing the highest level of quality care to patients and their families and/or caregivers.
A vital component of CoC accreditation is multidisciplinary treatment planning through a regularly scheduled tumor board. Cancer conferences/Tumor Boards provide a forum for multidisciplinary physicians and staff to discuss the stage of patients, treatment options, and when applicable, surveillance plans using nationally recognized, evidenced-based guidelines.
CoC guidance details that tumor conference case presentations optimally address the following:
Discussion of stage, including prognostic indicators, and treatment planning using national, evidence-based treatment guidelines
Options and eligibility for clinical trial participation
Methods to address areas that fall below the levels established in the policy
Prospective cases which include, but are not limited to, the following:
Newly diagnosed and treatment not yet initiated
Newly diagnosed and treatment initiated, but discussion of additional treatment is needed
Previously diagnosed, initial treatment completed, but discussion of adjuvant treatment or treatment for recurrence or progression is needed
Previously diagnosed, and discussion of supportive or palliative care is needed
Additional areas recommended for discussion include, but are not limited to:
Genetic testing and counseling
Palliative care
Psychosocial care
Rehabilitation services
Navigation services
