I am using my position as Proconsul in Sigma Chi to gain experience in leading a group of men for both betterment of the Fraternity and individual development of character. In pursuing this I hope to identify the strengths that I already possess as well as areas that I can improve on as an understanding and influential leader. As Proconsul I am responsible for managing all of the other positions in our chapter, running the Judicial Board, and educating newly initiated brothers with a post-initiation training. We have a total of 23 positions in our chapter, including mine, each of which holds a different responsibility and aspect to the healthy functioning of the organization. The Judicial Board is essentially a reprimand/punishment system that is used to make sure that our brothers are being safe and upstanding members of society. It isn’t convened often but that isn’t to say that we don’t reprimand our brothers for their actions. With the post-initiation training it is my job to educate our new brothers on proper chapter proceedings and etiquette as well as making sure they have a smooth assimilation into active chapter. In the most basic sense I handle all of the interior workings of the chapter.
I was elected by my fellow brothers to hold the position of ProConsul which means Vice President. This position will help me gain leadership skills because it places me in charge of all of the positions within our chapter and I am responsible for the smooth operation of our chapter and the events that we may hold. In taking this track, I believe it is imperative to seek the proper guidance in order to help steer the Fraternity in a positive direction in both campus and community relations.
The larger purpose of my project is to help others develop as potential leaders in their daily lives. This project will give me ample opportunity to influence and help others struggling with personal goals in a respectful manner.
