Artifact #1: Professional Development/Engagement Reflection
Rationale for Artifact #1:
Description: This artifact was a reflection I completed for my professional engagement during my time at Trinity. this particular professional engagement was a support seminar for prospective student teachers as well as first year teachers. It was hosted by several young teachers including some first-year teachers who were fresh out of student teaching.
Connection: This artifact aligns with ITPS knowledge indicator 9D which states: "The competent teacher identifies paths for continuous professional growth and improvement, including the design of a professional growth plan". This seminar helped me as I went into student teaching and helped me understand what to expect and how to be effective and efficient with my time.
Importance: This professional engagement opportunity was important for me going into student teaching because it laid out expectations other teachers have had in the past and gave me an inside look on what other experiences looked like. This also included a question-and-answer component where we were able to present questions about the process from professionals in the field. These types of professional development opportunities are ways I will look to take advantage of and grow as a teacher.
Artifact #2: Cooperating Teacher Evaluation
Rationale for Artifact #2:
Description: This artifact is the evaluation my cooperating teacher completed at the conclusion of my time in the elementary school. This evaluation included a summative overview and review of my entire experience within the elementary school. This includes and evaluation on 3 of the domains within the Danielson framework.
Connection: This artifact aligns with ITPS performance indicator 9I which states: "The competent teacher models professional behavior that reflects honesty, integrity, personal responsibility, confidentiality, altruism and respect". This evaluation is a snapshot of who I am as a teacher and where I am aware of where I need to grow as one as well. This evaluation illustrates my strengths and professionalism as an educator as well as areas of growth.
Importance: This artifact gives a good look as to who I am as a professional and what I can bring to the table in terms of school culture and effective instruction. This evaluation is not something I took lightly and was used as a tool for me to look at the areas of strength that I can continue to grow and places I can be more effective as well. This helps me connect to what I need to professionally develop in moving forward into my career.
