jaya jAnakI prANa nAyaka
O Lord who causes (kAraka) joy (Ananda) to the World (jagat) (jagadAnanda)! Hail (jaya) You – Consort (prANa nAyaka) (literally Lord of life) of jAnakI!
The pallavi, opening lines - jagadAnandakAraka jayajAnakiprANanAyaka - seem to tell the entire rAmAyaNa. The rAmAyaNa is a story of how the world was tortured by insensitivities of the demon king rAvaNa, the high point of which was his kidnapping of mother Seetha. Lord rAmA vanquished the demon in a war and while it would appear that he brought joy to mother Seetha or got revenge, in reality He brought joy to the entire world by ridding it of the insensitive demon - this is how the Lord of jAnaki who is hailed becomes the cause of the joy of the worlds! This is elaborated in the audio clip below.
