Now you know all the letters of the Tuvan alphabet. You know how they sound and how they are combined together in a word. It is time to read a verse from the first song in these learning materials-- «Үжелээн бис, дөртелээн бис». Try reading the verse on your own first and then listen to the recording to check yourself.
Үжелээн бис, дөртелээн бис
Үжен кижи шинчилиг бис
Үжен кижи ол-даа канчаар
Үш-ле биске кайыын чедер
In order to practice further reading, writing, and typing in Tuvan, you can dip into the wide pool of online Russian (!) learning tools. They will help you master the Cyrillic script.
Apps for learning to read in Russian. I am not aware of apps for learning to read in Tuvan, but there are several apps for learning to read in Russian. You can check out the following blogpost and choose your own adventure from there.
Typing in Russian and Tuvan. There is a downloadable Tuvan keyboard layout, but I would advise using the Russian phonetic keyboard (to type in Russian "a" you press English "a") instead of learning the standard Russian layout (to type in Russian "a" you will have to press English "f"). I usually insert three extra Tuvan letters (ө, ӊ, ү) from symbols.
Writing in Russian and Tuvan. Although writing is beyond the scope of this set of lessons, you can buy handwriting sheets to practice cursive. You will need cursive, if you ever decide to decipher a hadnwritten note in Tuvan.
Before you proceed, please take a moment and assess you progress. There are no right or wrong answers. The questions below are aimed to help you look back and assess how much ground you have covered.
Congratulations on finishing the first set in these learning materials!
Since you know how to read in Tuvan, you can now proceed to the learning materials built around songs.
