Hi! My name is Rossina Soyan, and I have designed this set of lessons to make the Tuvan language and culture a little more accessible to the English-speaking world. Since throat singing seems to be the most popular export from Tuva, all the language materials are built around songs. You all had different exposure or maybe no exposure to Tuvan so the materials are designed for complete beginners. There are four sets on this website which are expected to be covered consecutively.
The website is created with the educational purpose only, and all the embedded videos are publicly accessible from YouTube. If you want to find out more about me and the goals of this set of lessons, please watch a short video below.
Tip 1: Sometimes the audio does not play for reasons beyond my understanding. I am using a free tool for creating websites, so problems are unavoidable. You can do two things. One strategy is to press the arrow on the upper right side and access the recording on a different page. Another strategy is to refresh the page - it will change the configuration of recordings that can be played on the website. I want to assure you that all the recording are available but google sites sometimes does not play them.
Tip 2: Remember to keep track of where you stopped. You should not strive to complete all the sets in one sitting. Take your time and enjoy the process of discovering a new language.
Before you embark on this journey of learning Tuvan through songs, I want to ask you to leave your feedback here after you complete all or some of the sets. I care about your learning and progress you make, so let me know whether the explanations and activities are easy to understand or confusing. Your feedback may improve the exisiting materials and influence the development of materials in the future.
If you do not know how to read in Tuvan, please start with this set. If you can read in Tuvan, you can go straight to the materials built around Tuvan songs.
