*Was unable to fulfill due to limitations put in place by COVID-19*
To fulfill the travel requirement, I was supposed to go on a trip to Tanzania with Mr.Shea, Ms. Kuhlmann, and Ms. D'Alise. I had never been to a country in Africa before, so I was elated to have this opportunity, and was very disappointed when I learned that we would not be going. The trip was still in its early planning stages when we got the news that it was cancelled and, being that is was over a year ago now, I do not remember very much of what the itinerary looked like, nor can I find it on any Global Engagement platforms. I do know that the trip involved a service component and that we would be frequenting a small village near our campsite. I also remember that the trip was going to involve a lot of camping/hiking and that the access to technology would be little-to-none which I was actually excited to experience as well.
On this trip I was hoping to fully immerse myself in Tanzanian culture and life. I wanted to spend as much time away from my phone and social media and focus more on living in the moment rather than simply trying to capture it for the purpose of showing others. I was also really interested in learning about the plethora of tribes in the country and how their cultures, languages, and ways of life differed. I hoped to interact with as many people native to the surrounding villages as possible, but I was also looking forward to connecting with my fellow global pathways members in this very new environment. I was excited to walking away from the experience with a with an even broader global lens and a new perspective on how fascinating the difference between cultures can be.
I believe that the service component of the trip was infrastructure-based and involved spending a lot of time with the people native to the local villages. If I remember correctly, we were going to be building waterways with the local community. This would have been a really great bonding experience and I love service work that is more active and involves some heavy-lifting!
Unfortunately, I did not complete pre-travel discoveries. But I will include some beautiful pictures of the country and their people that I found while doing some research on it in my free time. (The title picture is also one of a Tanzanian landscape)
