Hogwarts Cyber Challenges

Inspiring the next cyber talent

These resources were created by the Turing's Testers 2.0 in collaboration with dressCode and the Data Lab as part of Cyber Scotland Week 2019.

They have created these resources for all pupils, both primary and secondary. The aim is to inspire and engage more pupils into the cyber sector.

Task 1 - Who stole Hermione's books

This task trains pupils up through Auror Training. Pupils will be taught how to encode and decode six types of ciphers.

Level of difficulty: Easy/Medium depending on age group it is given to.

Target age: P5 to S1.

Task 2 - Auror Training cipher word search

Nice, short extension task for pupils that can be used after pupils have completed their Auror training and solved who stole Hermione's books.

Level of difficulty: Easy

Target age: P5 upwards

Task 3 - Warn Hogwart's pupils of imminent cyber attack

Task leads on from Task 1. Pupils need to warn their favourite Hogwarts pupil of an imminent cyber attack . They must write an encrypted letter using a cipher from their Auror Training.

All letters received will get a reply in the same cipher! #cyberpenpals

Level of difficulty: Medium

Target age: P5 to S1.

Task 4 - Stop Hogwarts Cyber Attack

Slytherin house are up to no good and have hacked Dumbledore's admin login. They have changed the house points so Slytherin will win the house cup, can you put a stop to the Hogwarts Hack?

All pupils who stop the Hogwarts Hack will get a certificate and each school will get a Computing Science poster.

Level of difficulty: Medium/Hard

Target age: S1 to S3

Target ages are recommendations. feel free to use as required.
