TheTulane7 report that they filed a formal complaint with OIE in April of 2018. This letter reports details about the discrimination they faced as residents in the Tulane Med-Peds program. They submitted the letter seen below through their online reporting tool, outlining behaviors that they state violated the university’s Anti-Discrimination Policy in April of 2018.
As they reported in their twitter thread, Tulane's response to their complaint was to hire an independent investigator to review their case. This independent investigator was an employment attorney. TheTulane7 report that they had been warned that the law firm has represented Tulane in past lawsuits against the institution for discrimination.
They then report that a high-ranking TU administrator sent messages to their personal e-mail accounts, urging them to call him. He then scheduled a meeting on a different date than what they had arranged on their own with the independent investigator. He insisted they attend that meeting and went as far as to inform other parties to ensure they could/would attend the meeting he arranged. They then report that: "[w]e grew more fearful, given the lack of preserved anonymity & felt disparaged and intimidated."
In the end, Tulane's Office of Institutional Equity determined that there was no violation. But the group alludes to using their twitter platform to reveal even more details of their sordid tale and the evidence they collected regarding their experiences of discrimination at Tulane using this cheeky gif.
