A blog devoted to collected stories and information to help shed light on the discrimination residents, faculty, and students have experienced while training at Tulane.
On February 11, 2021, the Tulane University Internal Medicine-Pediatrics program made a BIG change. It's matriarch for the past decade, the first and only Black and female program director for Tulane Med-Peds, Dr. Dennar, was removed from her position. Soon afterwards, stories circulated via social media about the events leading up to her swift dismissal. The most damning of these is her lawsuit filed in October 2020 alleging discrimination on the basis of race and sex by administrators in the School of Medicine. Since then, news circuits and social media platforms have been flooded with stories of this shocking example of institutionalized racism at an academic medical institution. This blog was created in response to Dr. Fitts's Letter to the Tulane Medical Community to help collect and amplify stories of discrimination at Tulane and serve as repository of information as more stories are shared of the darkest experiences of racism and discrimination comes to light.
