Targets are the most important resources, features or assets you want to conserve, maintain or restore in your project area. Targets might include ecosystems, focal species and other natural values. Identifying the right set of focal conservation targets is the foundation for all subsequent steps in CAP. Varied targets at your project area will have different conditions and threats, and therefore will require different strategies.
Targets has five steps:
1. Select Focal Targets
2. Describe your Targets
3. Specify the Target Type
4. Map your Targets
Example: Ecosystem and Species Targets
Then, teams may need to add species with unique ecological requirements or threats that are not already reflected by the ecological systems in which they are embedded. These are considered “fine-filter” targets with special conservation needs that go beyond conserving the ecosystem.
