Women empowerment
This project aims to create seminars for financially unstable women, in order to gain financial skills and create business opportunities. Further, we connect the women with health initiatives to enable provision of good health and well-being for them and their families.
We believe women are the center of every family, and therefore we aspire to create awareness and appreciation of the impact women have on our communities and society.
Together we have created the platform “Wanawake Tunaweza” (Women we can), to offer a space for expression, ideas and initiatives. The platform connects women in need, which profit from their own creativity, mutual support and our guidance.
Further we have created two support groups called “Wajane na Maendeleo” (Widows with progress) and “Juhudi” (Effort), for widows and women living with HIV/ AIDS. These two groups contain over a 100 women, which we supply with beekeeping skills, marketing knowledge, wax making products and entrepreneurship skills.
Medical examination for children and pregnant women
Women and children are often neglected, when in need of hospital care. Therefore, we set up a mobile clinic, in order to access patients in remote villages with absence of health care. Furthermore, we established a partnership with government officials to conduct an annual free medical camp.
Subsequently, the objectives of our mission are to
1. raise awareness about disease prevention,
2. to improve health related activities in schools and
3. to improve the health service at local facilities, such as dispensaries.
Further projects of our health program are:
1. Community Health workers (CWH)
The CWH consists of a group of women, who perform monthly health campaigns on general disease prevention. Our communities suffer from diseases such as malaria, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, diabetes, etc…
2. Home-based care
We are training volunteers in small communities, to enable caretaking of the most vulnerable
3. Improving the availability of first aid
In cooperation with dispensaries, we are connecting with people in need of urgent first aid, in order to send our team to conduct first aid and offer a drive to the next available hospital for further treatment.
4. Medical Mama’s bus
With this initiative we enable free medical examinations twice a month. Consequently, locals gain trust in dispensaries, thus, leading into extended utilization.
5. Kucheza ni afya program ( playing is Health)
This program is aiming to increase sport programs at schools for better physical and mental health. Additionally, the formation of healthy habits is supported. Thereupon, 30 monthly training sessions in ten schools are coordinated by Tunaishi foundation, as well as three supplemental health campaigns.
Access to water sanitation and hygiene (WASH)
We are committed to be part of the long-term objective of clean water access for 70% of the population. On this account, we are drilling water wells in public schools in and around ifakara. Additionally, we conduct hygiene campaigns for beneficiaries and schools, in order to achieve responsible caretaking and conservation of the water sources.
Farming and Environmental Conservation
Tunaishi foundation has introduced the project to educate farmers about more sustainable farming methods. As well as, we are trying to counteract global warming by planting trees together with schools and other community members, hence, supporting growing awareness about climate change.
Further, we created environmental clubs to address other problems with workshops and campaigns, such as community trash management.
