Tuckered Out Dog Walking was founded in 2021 by Austin Tuck and has grown into a team of 10 W-2 employees serving Richmond families. Every person on our team is a direct employee covered by workers’ compensation insurance. That distinction matters far more than most pet parents realize (more on that on our blog).
Our hiring process is deliberately rigorous. We reject more than 99.5% of applicants. Those who make it through complete a 24-hour training program covering animal behavior, handling protocols, emergency response, and our force-free philosophy before working independently.

Fear Free Certified: Our approach prioritizes emotional wellbeing alongside physical safety. Fear Free certification reflects formal training in low-stress handling techniques recognized across the veterinary and pet care professions.
CPR/First Aid Certified: Through Pet Pro Hero, our team is trained to respond to pet emergencies. When seconds count, preparation matters.
PSI Member: Pet Sitters International membership holds us to a published code of conduct and connects us to continuing education and industry standards that exist outside Richmond’s local market.
Licensed, bonded, and insured: Full professional liability coverage and bonding protects our clients. Workers’ compensation coverage protects against homeowner liability exposure that gig-contractor models leave open.

COMMUNITY INVESTMENT
Our shelter program with Richmond Animal Care & Control is not a marketing feature. It is ongoing operational work. Our team has completed 275 shelter outings with RACC dogs, giving animals enrichment, socialization, and visibility that directly improves adoption outcomes. The participating shelter dogs have achieved a 95% adoption rate.
That’s the standard we hold ourselves to, in the community and with your dog.
