The Human Development and Family Sciences Graduate Student Association (HDFS GSA) is a nonprofit entity designed and run by current graduate students in the HDFS department. The HDFS GSA provides a forum for current graduate students to socialize, provide support for one another, and facilitate communication between the HDFS department and current graduate students. The mission of the HDFS GSA is to, 1) compel engagement in scholarship and research, 2) encourage discussions on enriching careers, both within and outside academia, 3) nourish student well-being, and 4) cultivate a culture of belonging and collegiality for graduate students. The HDFS GSA runs an annual fundraiser, the HDFS GSA Toy Drive, to provide graduate students an opportunity to engage with the community and earn valuable volunteer service. Students are provided with resources through the HDFS GSA website, which includes access to healthcare, scholarship opportunities, and fee waivers for internet access. Professional speakers are brought in annually, inspired by students’ interest and provided at no cost to students.
