筑波大学ヘルスサービス開発研究センターの宮脇研と連携して、低価値医療に関連する患者や医師、病院の性質を探索する疫学研究を実施しています（医の倫理委員会承認番号：2122）。具体的には、抗菌薬の投与の質に影響する医師や病院側の要因がないかを探索しており、これによって抗菌薬の適正使用を効率的に促進するためのポピュレーションを特定して、限られた資源を有効活用するための基盤情報を創出することを目指しています。

病院総合内科はJACSIS研究に参加しています（T-CReDO承認番号：R07-178）。これは一般人口の社会経済因子と健康因子とを結びつけ、健康格差の現状を明らかにする試みです。例えば、転職はストレスの大きいライフイベントですが、これに伴って頭痛や不眠といった症状が出現しやすくなることを病院総合内科で明らかにしました。普段から問診で患者さんの社会背景を聴取している私たちにとっては、現場での疑問が社会レベルで当てはまるかを検証する貴重な機会にもなっています。

病院総合内科は、他の診療科や研究所とも提携して「ヨコのつながり」の構築に尽力しています。例えば、ビル・ゲイツ財団の世界疾病負担研究（GBD project）に関与したり、感染症内科と珍しい感染症に関する疫学研究を実施したり、国立環境研究所のエコチル調査に参加したり、意欲ある医学群医学類や他大学医学部の学生さんに研究に関わっていただいたりと、こだわりを持たずに幅広く柔軟に研究活動を行っています。ご興味のある方は遠慮なくご連絡ください。チャレンジ精神を持った若手の皆さんを歓迎しています！
