Community Ambassador site: varies. See the details above
If you're not able to make it one of the check-in sites (above), we've compiled a list of popular places all over Hawai'i that others trainers have said tend to have good spawns for Community Day (and so you'll probably run into other trainers, too!). Please note that this list was compiled before the spawnpoint redistribution of October 2019, so some sites with large cluster spawns (like parking lots) were nerfed.
Ala Moana Shopping Center
Starbucks/Macy's
Great if you want/need to sit with food/drinks/little ones or stay out of the rain/heat. Several gyms are nearby for breaks, including one EX-eligible gym in easy walking distance (a number of others are remote raid-able offsite)
Several have commented that you can't expect to get large numbers of shinies if you just sit at the stops; they encourage trainers to walk the Mall, too.
Also, please kokua and don't block the walkways
The Shirokiya-side food court side (which did not make it through the pandemic) in early 2020 also gained a multi-stop cluster.
University of Hawai'i at Manoa: (40+ stops and 8 gyms on the main/north campus)
Great for help replenishing pokeballs, getting quests from the numerous stops (if there's another event like Sunglasses Squirtle), doing raids during the event, and walking to many spawnpoints
Campus walk map options: Yellow (good if you have kids. small-ish, mostly covered loop), Green (recommended), Red (If you really, really, really need to hit a lot of stops/get in steps)
Mililani Town Center : (8 stops and 3 gyms on the property itself, 1 EX-eligible gym in viewing---but not walking---distance, and 4-5 more stops if you're willing to cross a street to the library/church nearby)
4 stops cluster by the movie theatre
Great for having places to take a break for a bite, having some gyms for raids, walking for spawnpoints
The biggest spawnpoint cluster is the whole sidewalk in front of Walmart, so be sure to hit that twice an hour. Other clusters tend to be the center of the mall and the walkways radiating out from it
Kapolei Library: (14 stops and 3 walkable gyms [up to 5 gyms, if you're willing to walk a few extra blocks])
Usually you'll want to walk between the Library and shopping area
East Waikiki (esp. the Honolulu Zoo, or the Kapiolani Park/Honolulu Aquarium area)
Please note that while the Zoo has a number of Stops and spawn points (~25 stops and 2 walkable gyms), it also has a fee and does not open until 10am and closes at 4:00pm (last admission at 3pm) (so not good for those long-event days).
The beach-side of Waikiki, in general
SALT and Coral Street in Kakaako
Map: Possible area to drive around in (.png file; green dots=PokeStops, orange dots=gyms)
Pearl Ridge Center (10-12 stops, 3-4 gyms, depending on how you define the mall area). An indoor mall option for bad weather, especially.
Kahala Mall (5 stops, 4 gyms)
Fasi Civic Center (10-11 stops and 2 gyms on the site proper, but in viewing/walking distance of a number of other gyms, including EX-eligible locations)
BYUH campus (You'll probably run into members of the Laie Discord!)
Kapiolani Community College campus (free parking, usually) (10-11 stops, 4 gyms)
Please note they usually have a Saturday morning farmers market so you might want to avoid KCC for Saturday Comm Days during those times (crowds!)
Ali'i Drive, Kona - Don't forget the pier!
Kona Commons Shopping Center (4 stops, 3 gyms)
Hilton Waikoloa, Waikoloa (north of Kona) - They even have a tram that goes a good speed for egg hatching.
Liliuokalani Gardens, Hilo (19 stops, 2 gyms)
Front Street, Lahaina (the biggest group will probably be at a triple lure at Lahaina Library, 680 Wharf St)
Lahaina Cannery Mall (2 stops, 2 gyms)
Honokowai Beach Park (1 gym, a second gym and two stops nearby)
Whalers Village (boardwalk in Kaanapali) (3-4 stops, 3 gyms)
If you can't make it to Lahaina, the next best towns to play would be Kihei (e.g., Kalama Beach Park) or Kahului (e.g., Queen Ka'ahumanu Center)
