Annie monologue from Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven by Reina Hardy
Phoebe monologue from Act III Scene V of As You Like It by William Shakespeare
I got a superior ranking for these monologues! Yay! I was extremely happy and confident with my performance before hearing back about how I scored, but it was so great to get confirmation from the judges. I received coaching for both of these monologues before performing them for this competition, so I had some experience with them under my belt. I got coaching for the Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven monologue at Broadway Workshop's 2020 Vocal Intensive summer camp, and I got coaching for the As You Like It monologue from my acting coach, Jessica Frey. I really enjoy performing both of these monologues and I think they contrast well with each other because the Annie one is more dramatic while the Phoebe one is more comedic. One of the judges said my movements were a little similar for the characters, but they were still differentiable enough. In the future, if I use these pieces as an audition package again, I will try and make my movements more obviously contrasting to set my characters more apart and to show more variety in my abilities.
