Eastern State Penitentiary
April 19, 2026
On Sunday April 19, 2026, five scouts from Troop 137 went to Scout Day at the Eastern State Penitentiary museum in Philadelphia, PA to earn our Architecture merit badge. Eastern State Penitentiary was Americas first penitentiary. A penitentiary is a type of prison.
When we arrived, they gave us an audio tour guide device and booklet of questions to complete. There were signs with number that you typed the number into the device to hear about the section you were in.
My favorite thing was when we got to go inside the cells. One neat feature of the cells is the tiny doors to go outside to the exercise yard.
We got to talk to an architect. We learned that the hallways were designed with arches because they allow water and snow to run off them so they don’t collapse.
My second favorite part was when we learned how they made the prison sturdy and to last a long time. We got to try masonry on stone and brick walls.
I would recommend going to the Eastern State penitentiary. We had a lot of fun, and learned a lot.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to participate in the Perkiomen Watershed cleanup. Your hard work made a real difference in keeping our local environment clean and healthy.
This year’s event was especially impressive, with over 2,000 volunteers participating across the watershed, making it one of the largest turnouts ever. In recent years, the cleanup has consistently brought together around 1,700–2,000 people, making it the largest single-day stream cleanup in Pennsylvania.
It was great to see such teamwork and dedication from our pack and troop. Your efforts helped contribute to a much bigger impact across the entire community. Giving back and looking out for the environment is what Scouts do.
Thank you again for your participation and for helping protect our watershed!

The 16 mile trip turned into 21 miles, but it was a good tuneup for Philmont. I hope everyone learned something from the trip. What to pack, what not to pack, etc. I learned to make sure I pack gloves (my hands where freezing!)

On March 22, 2026, the Troop collected and donated food and money to Shepherds Shelf. We collected over 500 items and $400 at our stand at Landis supermarket. Our troop was there for 4 hours asking community members to donate food from the supermarket. Scouts volunteered for 1 hour increments. It was a lot of fun to connect with our community and the fellow scouts in my time slot . It was nice to help collect for those who have food insecurities in our community.

The 2026 First Aid Meet was an exciting and memorable experience that challenged us to apply what we’ve learned in realistic situations. Throughout the event, we worked together as a team to respond to a variety of fun and intense scenarios that tested our first aid skills. Each situation required us to think quickly, communicate clearly, and adapt to changing conditions while under pressure. By the end of the meet, we didn’t just improve our medical knowledge but we also built stronger teamwork and confidence. Overall, the experience showed us how important it is to stay calm, support each other, and work together when it matters most. In the end over 130+ scouts and leaders from across the general Nash district had fun interactive time learning about first aid.

January 23-24, 2026
Troop 137 competed in the Klondike derby at Camp Hart on Saturday, the 21st. Klondike is a race where participants complete stations to learn skills and are graded on teamwork and skill. Our troop started early in the morning with the scouts making breakfast. Once we were done we gathered our tools and packed our sleds. Once the derby began everyone sprinted off to complete stations all across the camp. We had to use a 2-man saw to cut wood, shoot in archery, solve puzzles, complete Challenges, and more. We continued this for 8 hours and by the end felt confident in what we had done. Before trophies, we raced our sleds across a field for time. Once it was time for trophies we waited with suspense and won 1st place in teamwork and 1st place overall in the Braves division. Besides just winning we gave a valuable learning experience to our younger scouts, teaching them scout skills. In the end, we all had fun and were happy with what we had done.
