Troop 533 prides itself in supporting experienced scouts, who have shown capable leadership and independent ability, to take outdoor adventure to the next level. Regardless of where adventures take you .... long term outdoor adventures await! Its all up to you!

Philmont Scout Ranch (https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/) - BSA sponsored backcountry backpacking in the great Rocky Mountains, New Mexico, hiking self-sustained amongst the black bears and above the natural tree line in elevation!
Sea Base (https://www.bsaseabase.org/) - Sailing in the Atlantic Ocean & Gulf of Mexico, with multiple options around the Florida Keys, US Virgin Islands, and/or the Bahamas! From Fishing, snorkeling, sailing, SCUBA diving, and so much more!!!
Northern Tier (https://www.ntier.org) - Located at the U.S & Canadian boarders is an outdoor adventure of canoeing amongst the Moose, Grizzly's, and true wilderness terrain...oh, and did we mention Fishing!!!
Summit Bechtel Reserve (https://www.summitbsa.org/) - Beautiful rolling hills and deep river valleys in West Virginia with ziplining, white water rafting, mountain biking, leadership development learning, and more!
Local/Regional/National Self-Organized Adventures - Across our Nation or right here in Missouri, anything is possible. The BSA Outdoor Adventures offers endless areas and ideas for HAs, including Order of the Arrow, BSA Outdoor Program Properties, BSA International, National/Int'l Jamborees, and the above 4 primary programs.

Participation requirements may vary for given adventure programs, and in general require that all youth be 14 years of age (13 for Sea Base), a registered Scouter, and adults having completed YPT, reviewed the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting, and additional requirements that will be communicated by the Adventure Adult Leader. In all cases, participation requires participants to be both physically and emotionally prepared.

Troop 533 Philmont Backpacking - 2023

23 July - 5 Aug 2023 --- Philmont Backcountry Backpacking

Adventure Outline: Car > Train > Bus > --- Hike --- > Bus > Train > Car

- 16 Day Adventure including a 12 Day Trek of 54+ miles in the Rocky Mountains private BSA Philmont Scout Ranch of New Mexico. 2 Backpacking Crews of 12 Backpackers traveling as Troop 533 Philmont Team will trek across the Southwest by Train to New Mexico (2 days), check into "The Ranch" and leave for a 12 day Trek until traveling home by Train, 2 days. 8-23 July, 2022.
- Total Cost estimate is ~$1800 ($150 deposit per person to reserve)
  - BSA Philmont Trek Fee: $1295
  - Amtrak Train transportation: ~$250
  - Bus Transport roundtrip from train to The Ranch: $50.

Exploring the U.S. & Canadian Boundary Waters of Minnesota

Troop 533 Northern Tier Adventure, 2023 - Located at the U.S & Canadian boarders is an outdoor adventure of canoeing and wilderness living amongst the Moose, Grizzly's, and true wilderness terrain...oh, and did we mention Fishing!!! Never has the night sky been seen until experienced from the vast and open true wilderness.

Adventure Plans
- Depart: Drive.... North from St. Charles July 6/7, arriving to ELY Base Camp the evening of July 7
- ADVENTURE NORTHERN TIER: July 8-15, 2023
- Return: Leave after provided breakfast on July 15, arriving home the evening of July 15/16

- Being physically fit for this adventure is a must - planned activities such as hiking and canoeing will be held, including carrying ALL your personal gear and food, and at times your canoe across land
- Having the right gear - if you have gone to Philmont, much of what you brought/used there will be the same here. Waterproofing will be fundamental. Further review of gear/equipment requirements will be shared.

Summer in North Americas Canoe Country is a time like no other. With lakes stretching as far as the eye can see, all connected through a large web of waterways, Scouts travel effortlessly across in specially designed, Kevlar tripping canoes. Completing short portages between waterways brings scouts from lake to lake as they explore the vast biodiversity of the Northern Boreal Forest unique to Northern Minnesota and Canada.

Troop 533 Summit Bechtel Reserve, 2023 - Living adventures in the beautiful rolling hills and deep river valleys of West Virginia - Ziplining, White Water Rafting, Mountain Biking, Leadership Development Learning, and more! HOME OF 2023 NATIONAL JAMBOREE, our troop plans a 2nd High Adventure for 2023 to which scouts can join in addition to Northern Tier or in place of!!

2021: Troop 533 Sea Base Coral Reef Sailing and Southern Florida Adventures with a contingent of 40 boys / adult leaders living on 5 Sailing Ships, sailing and snorkeling the coral reefs of the Florida Keys. This was the first time Troop 533 attended Sea Base.
2020: Colorado Rocky Mountains, fun filled days of adventure camping and activities in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Was planned for Philmont Backcountry Cavalcade, Horseback - 8 day trek, 38 miles in the saddle.... due to COVID-19
2019: Philmont Backcountry Backpacking - 12 day trek, 65 miles. Crew Advisors: Dave Spies, Denise Shrum, and Matt Thomas
2018: Porcupine Mountains (Porkies) old growth forest along Lake Superior in Upper Peninsula Michigan. Philmont Backcountry Backpacking trek cancelled due to wildfire - Crew hiked the 4 days. Crew Advisors: Dave Spies and MJ Ayedlott
2016 - Lake Superior Sailing - 5 days on a 6 man 39 ft sailboat. Crew Advisors: Rodger Brisso and MJ Aydelott
Prior to 2016 - Individual scouts participated in BSA and Local High Adventures, with no primary record of adventures kept. Last "Philmont Trek" was 10+ years in mid 2000's.
