Troop 533 Membership
Youth ages 11-17 (age 10 with Cub Scout Arrow of Light award) are invited to join Scouts BSA, and may join any time during the year.
Please complete a Printed Application, or apply ON-LINE. Existing registered Youth (Webelos/Cub Scouts) or Adult Leaders may be transferred via Scoutbook (link), with no new current year, additional National BSA costs.
See our Calendar page for meeting times and location. Committee Meetings are also a great place to meet leaders and parents (more info below).
Costs/Fees
Joining: BSA's FIRST TIME national youth joining fee for scouts brand new to the Scouting program, once/lifetime fee (Cubs or BSA) is $25 in 2023 - Establishes their National Scout account
Youth Participation:
Annual BSA national youth fee ($75 - 2023: Program, insurance, etc.)
Troop 533 one-time, initial joining cost ($50 - 2022: Scout Handbook, Troop Neckerchief, Slide, Green Epaulets, and Troop 533 number patch
Annual Troop 533 participation fee ($25 – 2023, payable annually during Recharter/Registration in October). This cost helps to cover maintenance costs of troop equipment, storage facilities/shed, Troop Trailers, all award costs, and special event costs less food. This is NOT enough to cover these costs, and fundraisers/donations are used to cover the difference.
Weekend campout participation costs are $25 per attendee for all in-council events. The troop will supplement costs that exceed this; all special attendance costs (Horseback riding, MB Extra costs, etc. are to be covered by the attendee.
Additional costs are supplemented by our Troop Budget, as funded through donations and corporate citizenship funding programs, and discussed and shared as the events arise.
Adult Participation: Adults attending any overnight camping/activity events must be registered BSA leaders with appropriate training completed (YPT at minimum). An annual BSA national fee ($45 - 2023) includes a criminal background check, account maintenance, in inclusion of program liability coverage.
Payments: All fees are to be paid with cash or check (“BSA Troop 533”) with our Troop Treasurer during annual re-chartering from Sept-Oct. You can check your individual Scout or Adult Leader allocated account balance with the Treasurer at any time. Costs may be paid for with a Credit/Debit card, however, please note that our troop is charged nearly a 3% fee. At this time, we do not charge that back to the family, with the cost coming out of general operating funds.
Medical Forms: ALL Scouters must provide current Medical Forms - Please see below section on Med Forms for complete information
Scoutbook: All Adults and Scouts are invited to sign-up for a Scoutbook account. Your My.Scouting.org and Scoutbook account are connected, and your password to access should align. In Scoutbook, the youths legal guardian may enter the scouts email so that they too will receive all troop communication. ONLY the scout's parents have access to add/change/view a youth's email. A tutorial on how to do this is available here: https://help.scoutbook.scouting.org/knowledge-base/scoutbook-tutorial-for-parents/#viewing-editing-your-childs-profile
Code of Conduct: All youth scouts and registered Adults of Troop 533 are required to review and sign the Troop 533 Code of Conduct; also available within the Troop 533 Welcome & Operations Guide
Youth Protection policies are in place - no exceptions. All person to person interactions must follow YPT guidance, including one-on-one cyberspace or electronic communications between adults and youth will exist - including online or digital activities such as games, social media, chatting, texting, talking, etc.
To protect youth and leaders, we require all adult/youth electronic interactions (e.g., texting, email, instant messaging, etc.) to include a youth's parent when with a registered BSA leader. Leaders are to include/copy a scouts' parent and/or another BSA Adult leader in all communications, ensuring no one-on-one contact exists in any form of digital communication.
All adult leader interaction (physically or electronically) with a scout or scouts will include two-deep adult leadership directly with, or in the immediate vicinity of additional adult leaders - open area - in eyes site.
Please see BSA Social Media Guidelines for more information. Additionally, BSA Scouting issues a Safe Guide to Scouting and an Age Appropriate Guideline required for all adults to review.
Medical Forms (link) are required for all and any participation in Troop 533 Activities (Day or overnight events). They include a hardcopy and signed printout of Parts A & B for each participant, including shot records (may be printed separately and included with your Part B), and a copy of the front & back of your medical insurance card (Military - copy of Tricare Prime Insurance AD). Part C is to be completed by a Medical Practitioner, annually, and is only required for and when attending any activity greater than 72 hours long.

Other positions to be organized/filled include:
Chaplain / Unit Religious Emblems Coordinator
FOS Coordinator
Training/Leadership Coordinator (Currently supported by Youth Leadership Development, ASM, and Committee Chair)
