Meet the Teachers

Mr. Denk, 5A

Mr. Denk's introduction to Great Hearts was as a parent when the Trivium East campus first launched, six years ago. He now has 3 scholars at Great Hearts, ranging from 5th - 11th grade. Previously a vocational pastor for 17 years, Mr. Denk felt a tug to be a part of the Great Hearts culture and transitioned into education back in 2019. If you play sports, you may have already crossed paths with Mr. Denk, as he coaches many different community sports, including soccer for the Trivium Prep Middle School boys.

Ms. DeGraves, 5A

Hello! My name is Lynnea DeGraves. This is my fifth year working in fifth grade at ATE. I'm originally from S. California and have been living in AZ for 9 years now. I love to read, spend time with my children, and take long walks.

I have a passion for growing my scholars into independent students who are ready to take on 6th grade by the end of the school year.

Ms. McAllister, 5B

Ms. McAllister is the fifth-grade section B lead teacher at Archway Trivium East. Before high school, she was born and raised in North Philadelphia then moved to Fountain Hills, Arizona. She moved to Los Angeles, California, to attend Biola University, where she received her bachelor's degree in cinema and media arts. She’s also lived in London, England, where she studied to receive her master’s of art in producing for film and television from Royal Holloway, University of London. This year, Ms. McAllister’s professional goal is to expand her knowledge and experience as a teacher. Melissa values her faith and the hope that it brings her and strives to show love in all she does. Ms. McAllister is a skilled leader, communicator, and problem solver. She enjoys reading, writing, practicing on the guitar, hiking, and traveling in her free time.

Ms. Durias, 5B

Ms. Durias has been with Archway for four years now working as an Assistant Coordinator for Athenaeum. This year will be an exciting year for her because she gets to work closely with the students that she knows from the after-school program. A little bit about her is she came from the Philippines and moved to America at 8 years old. She is currently studying at Arizona State University pursuing her degree in Educational Studies. Some of her hobbies include playing volleyball, eating, and hanging out with friends and family in her free time. She looks forward to creating fun memories and build relationships with her students in 5B!

Mrs. Kemling, 5C

Mrs. Kemling has been at Archway Trivium East since 2019. She is married with two teenage children who attend Trivium Prep. Mrs. Kemling is also known as Coach Kemling to the runners at Trivium Prep. She may also be seen taking photos on the sidelines of the athletes at meets. She is a former military brat who has traveled the world, and enjoys visiting beautiful National Parks with her family. You may find Mrs. Kemling thrifting at your local Goodwill searching for classroom books or other treasure.

Mr. Houlihan, 5C

While Mr. Houlihan is not evading shady private investigators, he enjoys a bit of teaching at Archway Trivium East - a profession widely considered more dangerous than Lion Tamer, though less deadly than Minefield Inspector. Despite his questionable choice of employment, rest assured that he has attempted to lead a perfectly normal life ever since the incident. But please be aware that any mention of ducks, cameras, or Chesterfield chairs may cause acute distress, depending on the phase of the moon.
