Blessings of Obedience - Luke 5:1-5
In John 14:15, Jesus taught His disciples, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.” He repeated the connection between love and obedience several times because of its great importance. Having the correct view of obedience is one that expresses our love toward our heavenly Father. With this view it enables us to endure any difficulties in our life, and God also pours out His blessings on those who obey Him. Looking at Peter’s example, Jesus asked for use of his boat to preach to the crowd. After being up all night without catching any fish, Peter could have allowed his tiredness and weariness to stand as an excuse, instead, he responded to Jesus’ request and took a step into a life of obedience and blessing. On the surface, lending his vessel and helping Jesus did not appear to be important beyond the moment. But God had more in mind than a one-time loan of a boat. He was going to use Peter’s life and make him a fisher of men! Our lives are no different than Peter’s, because we cannot foresee what the Lord has in mind, we could be tempted to let excuses stand in our way, just as Peter, let’s say “nevertheless at thy word I will”! God rewarded Peter with service in His kingdom. He wants to do the same for us today!
The Lord Mighty in Battle - Psalm 24:8, Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
Battles are not easy; they’re tough, threatening and definitely tiring. Jesus went through many sufferings during His journey on earth. His disciples left Him, Peter denied Him, the religious leaders of that day rejected that He was the Son of God, the soldiers beat Him and finally crucified Him on the cross. The world hated Him, they will oppose us as His followers. We will always contend and fight against the darkness of the world, with our flesh, and Satan! We can’t defeat our enemies within ourselves or with our own strength, they’re too strong, so we must look to the Lord, mighty in battle! Be assured, even now, He is fighting for you and me!
God Is Able - Ephesians 3:20-21
The spirit of God reminds us daily of the sureness of His word! The apostle Paul declares in Ephesians 3:20, Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Jesus knew what it was like to have others to question His actions, and to be rejected by those He sought to serve. In spite of these obstacles and many others, He didn’t allow circumstances to affect His trust in our Heavenly Father. We’re called to follow Jesus’ example by believing that God is able to do what He’s promised. There’s nothing impossible with Him! By believing that God is able, it loosens the heaviness of doubt, it binds up the lies and deceptions of Satan, we grow stronger in our faith and gain such an amazing peace. Hardships that would once have thrown us off course, lose their power. Hope replaces discouragement, and our trust overcomes doubt. Next time trouble comes your way, focus on God’s promises and know that He’s Able!
