Know Who You Are! - 1 Peter 2:9, But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light;
Unfortunately our culture has continuously pushed the identity agenda, many are confused and deceived, struggling to know who they are! In this passage of scripture, the apostle Peter makes it clear as he identifies who the church is and what we are about! The spirit of God has been calling on us to align ourselves with Him. He has chosen you and me for this time, He’s purposed us to fulfill His plan! All through Bible history, God used people just like you and me, common and ordinary, yet when He called them, their identity was revealed through their obedience. Moses was living on the back side of the desert, God called him to deliver the people of Israel. Young and inexperienced, David stood firmly against Goliath and won a great victory for Israel. Nehemiah living in captivity, serving as a cupbearer, God called him to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Mary, was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Peter would have lived and died a fisherman, Jesus called him to establish the church. God desires to use you greater than ever before, remember who you are in Christ Jesus!
The Hope of Christ Return - Matthew 24:37-39
But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
Evil ruled the hearts and minds of many in Noah’s days, there was little to no reverence and honor for God, disobedience and sin corrupted their society until God finally said, enough! Today, many people look at the things going on in our society and ask, what is our world coming to? As believers in Christ we don’t have to wonder, Bible prophecy is being fulfilled and ultimately God’s judgment will prevail. Society is becoming so tolerant of sin and evil, people live in fear, not knowing from one day to the next what they're going to face. As we look across the landscape of our world, in the natural, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of hope, however, we need to remember, Jesus said that just before He returns, the world will get worse and worse, as it did in the days of Noah. For the child of God, these conditions and unprecedented times bring us hope! Jesus is coming back to set things right and redeem those who are His own. So don’t be afraid of what may lie ahead for this world. God is in control, and nothing can remove His hand from His own! As the world gets worse, we have the hope of Jesus’ soon return.
Deepest Longing - Psalm 63:1, “O God, thou art My God; early will I seek thee: My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee In a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” David found himself in a season of life where he felt hopeless. He was outnumbered and overwhelmed, he felt alone and totally isolated, he seemed so far away from having any sense that help was on the way. He was “in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” It would have been easy to give up. Instead, he determined to seek God with intensity and a sense of desperation. He realized that God’s lovingkindness was better than life itself. His soul thirsted for God, he longed for Him, eager to see His power and glory. So, He praised God, lifting his hands in His name. Looking at your life, you might face similar situations. You may feel that you’re in a dry and thirsty land, that there are no solutions to your problems. Following David’s example, these are times to focus on God with a renewed determination. Reflect on His goodness and lovingkindness that He has shown! Remind yourself that through all things, God has been by your side, He’s never left you or forsaken you! As we do these things, we’ll begin to hunger and thirst for His presence. We’ll pray with passion, and seek Him with a Holy desperation! He will help us in our time of need and deliver us from the snare of defeat! Let’s praise and worship Him! He is worthy!
Unity of the Spirit - Ephesians 4:1-3, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” The church is truly unique, it is composed of people from countless backgrounds, who have a variety of opinions on many different topics. As believers indwelt by the Holy Spirit, we all belong to God’s family, we are spiritual brothers and sisters who are called to live in harmony and be one in Christ. When we live in submission to the spirit of God, He will help us with our attitudes, emotions, words, and actions to align with His purpose. As the Spirit rules each one of us, it becomes our heart to please Him, this is necessary if we hope to “walk in a manner worthy of [our] calling”. Unity in the church requires a willingness to yield to each other for the sake of our spiritual family. This kind of self-sacrifice is fueled by genuine love, which unselfishly acts for the good of another. It’s the glue that keeps the body of Christ together and enables us to live in harmony. When we hold tightly to God’s words and are knitted together in love, we honor Jesus Christ and have a strong defense against divisions and factions. As a body of believers, let's be diligent to live in harmony one with another, "endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace".
