The esoteric Mercury
The planet’s cycles can be observed in relation to the Sun and Moon.

Mercury and the luminaries
The esoteric Mercury moves across the Zodiac by following two mental and simultaneous orientations. These two orientations are indicated by the developments of the Sun and Moon.
The Sun, the planet of vitality, can initially be found in the symbiosis of the maternal utherus (Pisces). After the separation (Gemini) and the organic logic it acquires according to the surrounding space (Virgo), the autonomous consciousness (Sagittarius) will finally initiate or not a new raising according to some resonances with some karmic group (Aquarius), for later reincarnating and restarting a cycle of undifferentiated presentification (Pisces).
The Moon’s development is related to the mental consciousness when it is still asleep. In Esotericism, the orientation that the satellite offers puts on the table the energy in latency, that is, the karmic energy that will emerge when a life beating takes place (Sagittarius). In this orientation, Mercury is sticked to the maternal consciousness (Pisces), grows by splitting apart (Gemini), and becomes the most mature fruit possible (Virgo).
In brief terms, the person is mentally and simultaneously oriented towards vitality (Sun) and towards the still asleep consciousness (Moon). The first of them involves psychic energy, since Mercury is the planetary force that transforms energy in general, whether be to subtilize it (Sun), whether be to densify it (Moon). Both orientations explain how it is posible to remain reincarnated (which means with the feet on the ground) as the densest energy is progressively expressed as psychic energy.
The absolute transformations
Mercury is the planet that initiates the transformations, which are taken especially ahead by the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). These transformations, at the same time, are produced in different ways: on an absolute path and on a relative path to each person.
The absolute path can be observed in the actions taken ahead through two zodiacal cycles, depending on the chosen mental orientation (Sun, Moon). Their meanings have been mentioned before.

Steve Jobs' birth chart
Looking at Steve Jobs’ chart, the Sun in Pisces just starts its cycle of presentification from the undifferentiation (in its absolute House 1), with a great karmic call to reincarnate (Mercury in Aquarius, or its absolute House 12 in the cycle of that luminary). In concrete terms, that call was full of fun, creativity and personal pleasures (Mercury in House 5 at birth), which would be easily transmitted in his daily activities, especially to his employees (Sun in House 6 at birth). About the Moon, it would raise either a creative memory of fun and pleasures (Moon in Aries, or its absolute House 5), especially in the world of technological communications (Mercury in House 3 in the absolute lunar cycle). In concrete terms, the tendency will reach his partners and competitors, with special emphasis on the awakening of initiatives (Moon in Aries and in House 7 at birth).
The relative transformations
The relative path in which Mercury’s motion happens depends on what each person decides to do with their own birth energy. On this path, free will plays the main role for flowing in a lesser or greater degree as it follows the chosen orientation, and towards the consciously sought products. In esoteric and evolutional Astrology, the flow can be illustrated under the forms of two psychic triangulations that take place because of karma and for development. The human evolutional history has installed the following two basic triangulations for a human being in development:
The energy flows from Mercury towards Venus, and is distilled by Uranus. The triangulation develops emotional discernment, harmonises dissonances and creates without conflicts. The consciousness falls upon itself, which is karma causing an effect: mental magnetism.
The energy flows from Mercury towards Mars, and is distilled by Neptune. The triangulation allows utilizing one’s own will to live in the plane of reincarnation. When active, the latent energy is elevated from the chakra at the base (root chakra).
A type of them: transformations based on free energy
Such as it was mentioned in Astrology 2025-26: the astral karma (about the transit of the lunar nodes in Virgo and Pisces), Mercury in a birth chart tells of the frequent changes in consciousness, the hinges on the path and the new ones after each hinge, especially from those basic ideas supporting the processes. It’s also the planet of intelligence, which in esotericism indicates the faculty of directing and redirecting the energy towards any orientation in the zodiacal wheel (from Aries to Taurus, etc., or from Taurus to Aries, etc.). So a reorientation in the wheel always denotes intelligent activity to do it.
The previous triangulations were made keeping in mind the existence of an emitting center or chakra, a receptive center and a third center to distil energy. But the triangulation could also relate planets with no links between them in the birth chart. So the triangulation could be formed based on some specific and conscious goal posed by the person.
It’s also possible to redirect the energy in tension in a birth chart, which refers to the hard aspectations (involving Mercury or not). The consciousness simply has to redirect it towards the etheric center placed above the diaphragm and, of course, associated to the aspected planets, since it’s the orientation dissolving tensions by subtilising the substance (instead of densifying it).
In Jobs’ chart, there are numerous tense aspectation that could find an evolutional channel (dissolving karma), making the energy flow towards centers placed higher the diaphragm (cardiac, laryngeal, third eye and coronary, in that ordering). As it can be observed, four of the tense aspectations would redirect the energy towards Neptune in Libra, the planet of relationships of influence (especially accumulative, if considering the great cosmic cross). Another of the tense aspectations would redirect the energy from Saturn towards Mercury in Aquarius, the planet of the mind, the open words and the karmic resonances in this configuration.
Comment
The possibilities derived from Mercury’s esoteric functions provide a very wide and diverse panorama. The planet offers consciousness about development and also brings the karmic consciousness awakening throughout life.
Summarizing: the planet follows absolute cycles, makes triangulations to recap the evolutional karmic history of human beings, makes triangulations based on those goals derived from karma and free will, and subtilizes the densest matter if the person wish it consciously.
However, its esoteric functions are not independent regarding other planets’ functions. Any utilization of its functions will cause straight effects on Jupiter which, along with Neptune, are part of the planetary series of perception, mental magnetism and intention. As a whole, these three planets are the greatest astrological representatives of the psychic energy in motion.

For setting the absolute cycles of a planet, just consider how the Zodiac unfolds on Earth, or how a process under the lunar biorhythm happens. The hinges of each cycle are marked by the lunar phases, as simple as that! So meditate consciously on which and how it is the maximum fruit or goal during each cycle, or the sign where the 10th House is emplaced as the max development. From there, just deduce the process leading to that product or fruit, from House 1st and through Houses 4th and 7th.]
