Class Management Plan

Strive for 5 Point System:

Classes earn 5 points every time they come to PE. They lose class points for not being prepared for PE, cooperating, and not following the classroom rules. At the end of each quarter the classes with the most points earn an extra PE and can play the games that the class votes for. Each class has their own ball where points are recorded and visible for everyone to see.

Classroom Rules & Expectations:

Respect Yourself: Do your best, wear clothes comfortable to move in (no jeans), wear athletic shoes, have fun!

Respect Others: Do not interrupt others, use kind words, encourage others, always use good sportsmanship.

Respect This Place: Don’t touch equipment without permission, take care of your gym, use equipment appropriately.

Consequences:

Strike 1 = Warning

Strike 2 = Refocus (Mindful Minute)

Strike 3 = Refocus, Discussion with Teacher, & Note Home

Magma Focus:

Magma Focus is an attention cue and focus strategy utilized to help students listen to instruction in PE. It is taught at the beginning of each year and reinforced throughout the year. Students must have “eye focus”, “ear focus”, “mind focus”, and “body focus” to be ready for PE and activity.

Seating and Groups:

Students are in similar arrangements in the gym that they are in the classroom utilizing Kagan style seating. There are seven different colored “blocks” in the gym that students sit around representing their table group or “huddle”. Groups are switched when they are switched in classroom about every 6 weeks.

***PE Rules and Expectations are posted throughout the gym. The rules are clearly discussed at an age appropriate level and the expectations are demonstrated at the beginning of the year. Other school policies for positive behavior reinforcement such as “I was caught Bringing the Heat” is utilized.***
