Naso Economidou is a Chemist at the State General Laboratory of Cyprus, with over two decades of experience in food chemistry. She holds an MSc in Food Chemistry from the University of Cyprus and specializes in food composition, quality, nutritional value, and authenticity. Her work focuses on the chemical characterization of foods and the verification of authenticity and traceability using advanced analytical techniques. Ms. Economidou has actively contributed to national and international research projects and the development of analytical methods for official food controls. She is a member of the EFSA Food Consumption Network, supporting data harmonization across EU Member States. Her career reflects a deep commitment to scientific excellence and consumer protection through rigorous food quality assessment.
Mr. Filippos Georgiades is a Public Health & Environmental Hygiene Officer at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, with 26 years of experience. The last 10 years he coordinates the Sector of Food Labelling and Composition, at the Central Offices of the Public Health & Environmental Hygiene Services.
Dimitris Papamichael is a Clinical Dietitian and PhD candidate at the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus. He holds degrees in Dietetics from the Higher Technological Institute of Crete and a Master’s in Clinical Nutrition from Harokopio University, Greece. Since 2015, he has practiced privately and collaborates with institutions including the Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre, Herodoteion Rehabilitation Center, and the Diabetes Care Team of Dr. Panagiotis Koutsides. He also serves as a Practice Placement Educator at the University of Nicosia. Dimitris is Treasurer of the Cyprus Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists, and a member of cySPEN, ESPEN, and RECEN. His research focuses on the role of nutrition in cancer prevention, treatment, and recovery.
Corina-Aurelia Zugravu is a professor at "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, heading the Department of Nutrition and Environmental Health. A medical doctor with a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and a specialization in Public Health, she has worked since 1999 as a consultant at the National Institute of Public Health. Her expertise spans dietary assessment, non-communicable disease prevention, and health promotion. She has played a key role in Romania’s food reformulation policies, especially salt reduction in processed foods, aligning national efforts with EU and WHO standards. Currently, she serves as WHO Nutrition Focal Point for Romania and contributes to the Expert Group on Food Law and Sustainability. She champions nutrition as a source of health, joy, and cultural identity.
Nastasia Belc, General Director of The National R&D Institute for Food Bioresources, IBA, is food senior scientist, PhD. She is member of Romanian Academy for Agricultural and Forestry Sciences and member of the Consultative Council of Sustainable Development Department under Romanian Government. At the international level, she is member of SCAR Food System Working Group under European Commission and member of the Steering Committee and Management Board of Healthy Diet Healthy Life Initiative. Nastasia Belc is Romanian Node Representative for the pan-European Research Infrastructure, METROFOOD-RI. More she is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the EUFIC organization.
As researcher, she coordinated and has been member of research teams for national and European projects related to designing or reformulating new food matrices and technologies (conventional or through circular bioeconomy, gluten-free products, and others). She has had over fifteen national patents for new food products and technologies, and she has published over 180 articles or book chapters in the field.
Daniela Borda graduated as engineer in Food Technology and obtained in 2005 a PhD degree in Industrial Engineering at Dunarea de Jos University of Galati, Romania (UGAL). She is currently habil. professor at the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering from UGAL- Romania, with research expertise in food safety, dairy science, statistics and food packaging.
Currently she is the institutional representative of the AEDIL Dairy CoVe project and coordinator of the SDG4Dairy grant. DB is member of the PROfutureFood Center of Excellence, 2026-2030, PN-IV-PRO-CoEx-2024-1.
She was trained in several EFSA programs for risk assessment (Milano, Italy – 2013, Larnaca, Cyprus – 2022, Helsinki -2024). From 2013, DB initiated and supported the Faculty of Food Science and Engineering from Dunarea de Jos University of Galati membership in the art. 36 EFSA Competent Organization List. She coordinated eco-innovative projects with students acquiring European Ecotrophelia prizes (Gold Prize in 2018 at Sial, Paris, France and Communication Strategy Award in 2025, at Anuga, Koln, Germany).
Eliza Markidou is a registered dietitian with degrees in Biology and Clinical Dietetics from the American University of Beirut and NYU. A former global president of the American Overseas Dietetic Association, she has shaped international nutrition policy for over 20 years. At Cyprus’s Ministry of Health, she leads national initiatives and represents the country at EU and WHO platforms. She is the founder of Bone Vivo, a nonprofit promoting healthy living among families, and directs the postgraduate Clinical Dietetics program at Limassol College. A passionate advocate for Mediterranean nutrition, she integrates public health, education, and cultural engagement in her work, and has lectured globally on holistic health approaches.
Prof. Opperhuizen (Emeritus) is an endowed professor at Maastricht University’s Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, affiliated with the NUTRIM School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism. He also serves as Director of the Office of Risk Assessment & Research at the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, where he leads independent scientific investigations into emerging public health risks. With over four decades of experience in environmental and life sciences, he has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers and conducted over 300 risk assessments. His interdisciplinary expertise bridges toxicology, behavioral economics, and public policy.
Prof. Opperhuizen is a long-standing advisor to the World Health Organization, contributing to global tobacco control efforts including the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. He chaired the WHO Tobacco Laboratory Network and currently serves on the WHO Scientific Study Group on Tobacco Control (TOBREG). His research focuses on emerging risks related to tobacco products, food safety, consumer goods, and innovative risk communication strategies. He also represents the Netherlands at the European Food Safety Authority.
