About Travis

Travis R. Candieas is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara Gevirtz Graduate School of Education. Candieas's research focuses on education policy and institutional quality with an emphasis in quantitative methods in the social sciences. His current projects include evaluating education and workforce development programs, longitudinal outcomes of intervention programs, and social capital internationally across institutions of higher education. His academic work has been presented at the American Evaluation Association annual conference, and his technical reports have been used for regional planning and implementation of California public policy initiatives.

Candieas is from a small rural town in Northern California. Candieas grew up raising dairy cows and participating in local community leadership programs. His values of community and family center his research because of his upbringing by his mother from the Philippines, sister with down syndrome, and other early childhood and adolescent experiences. Candieas enjoys advising and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds.

Candieas attended the University of California, Davis earned bachelor's degrees in international relations and history with a minor in education. He attended UC Santa Barbara where he earned his master's degree in education policy and leadership. Candieas is currently a Ph.D. Candidate with an emphasis in Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences and Research Fellow at the UCSB Orfalea Center for Global & International Studies.
