The model was piloted on the BA (Hons) Education Studies course, within the students Welcome Week. More details can be found within the Pre-Entry Welcome Week Slide.
Following the 2 pilots, carried out at the start of the academic year 18/19, other academic departments were quick to adopt the model for their learners. These were implemented in 19/20. In each case the learners were sent the Online Model approximately 10-14 days before they were due to arrive at Sheffield Hallam. The course teams then built on this by using the Welcome Week Model to develop the learners transition onto their course. By using the same topic which was used on the Pre Entry Online Model, learners who did not engage were not disadvantaged.
Take a look at the Early Adopters Presentation and how these looked in practice for the diverse range of academic discipline, including Physics, Criminology Marketing, English and others.
The O.A.C Model has also been adapted to support the transition of specific groups. Colleagues from Sheffield Business School have designed the model to support learners from China transition on to their Sheffield Hallam Marketing course.
Additionally, colleagues in Humanities have modified the O.A.C Model to assist the transition of their learners from level 4 to level 5.
