Support for the Transition Model has now ceased. This page is for reference only.
The Next Steps resource is embedded below.
The Next Steps model supports all students as they transition between each level of study and onto employment of further study (Class of 2021). This is a collaborative model between Academic Advisers (AA) and Employability Advisers (EA) resulting in the development of a digital resource, first implemented in Semester Two of the 2020-21 academic year, which can support Departments where considerable Academic Advising AWP activity in semester 2 that has been front loaded at the start of the year. There is a need to create an Academic Advising touch point that is not time intensive for staff but supports students as they conclude their academic year, and transition to their next steps. The focus of which will be both academic and employability related.
The 'Next Steps' Transition Review facilitates an effective and meaningful progression of students through the levels of their course drawing together reflections on their current performance and future aspirations identifying appropriate goals and ‘Next Steps’.
It provides an additional Academic Advising touchpoint for academic year 2020/21 where Academic Advising support has been front loaded leaving a need to provide a supplementary resource for students to utilise towards the of the year.
A simple, student-friendly, and engaging digital resource has been developed for students to complete online, providing them with an opportunity to review and reflect on their performance throughout the year. This then forms the basis for differentiated actions towards their next transition point considering key employability requirements. Academic Advisers can utilise the outputs for their students after engagement with the Next Steps Transition Review, within initial meetings at the start of academic year 2021/22.
Next Steps is aimed at students transitioning between levels of study and will be tailored by level.
Level 0 into Level 4 = Focus: Preparing for level 4 study
Level 4 into Level 5 = Focus: Placement aspirations including Sandwich Placements
Level 5 into Level 6 = Focus: Final Year Priorities (e.g.: Project) and work readiness
Level 6 transitioning into employment or further study - Class of 2021
Level 7 transitioning into employment or further study - Class of 2021
Elements of the package could be able to be tailored by Department and level to ensure Next Steps is as relevant as possible for students completing it.
