Support for the Transition Model has now ceased. This page is for reference only.
Once you have updated content on your pre-arrival site and enrolled students onto it, you'll need to send out a message to your students, letting them know that the site is available and how it will benefit them and add value to this part of their student journey.
What we’ve found from previous years, is a personal welcome from academics, along with guidance on how to access the pre-arrival site, helps to boost engagement with the resource. Here’s a template email that you may wish to use:
Hi,
Welcome to the (INSERT COURSE NAME) course at Sheffield Hallam University. I am (INSERT COURSE LEADER'S NAME) and I'm your course leader.
To help you get started, our course team have put together an online pre-arrival introduction to your course, which will introduce you to the course, get you thinking about some of the themes you’ll be studying, and feature some stories from graduates, professionals or placement students.
In order to access the site, you'll need to log in to the University's online learning system, BlackBoard. You'll then be able to find your pre-arrival introduction, titled 'A Taste of (COURSE NAME) at Sheffield Hallam University' under the 'Organisation Sites' heading.
Throughout your course at Sheffield Hallam, you’ll be using BlackBoard on a day-to-day basis, so this course will help to introduce you to the online learning platform.
We're really looking forward to welcoming you soon and on behalf of everyone at Sheffield Hallam, good luck with your course, and enjoy yourself during your studies.
To send your message, you can use the 'Send Email' feature within your pre-arrival site, once your students have been added. Or alternatively, your course administrator(s) may be able to support you in sending out an email to students personal email addresses.
