Transportation Method: Bike
Location: Around Lake Superior
Distance: 1,300 miles
Duration: 25-28 days
Average: 65 miles per day
Leg Three will be a complete circumnavigation of Lake Superior, the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area, and the longest, farthest, and most demanding leg of the expedition. Riding gravel bikes, we’ll bikeback our way across a mix of dirt roads, state forests, provincial parks, and highways, following the route commonly known as the Lake Superior Circle Tour, a journey most people experience by car.
Covering roughly 1,300 miles, this leg will be taken on day by day, with daily distances ranging from 50 to 100 miles, depending on terrain, weather, and recovery. We’ll be traveling counterclockwise, fully immersing ourselves in the culture, landscapes, and communities that define the Lake Superior region across both the United States and Canada. Circumnavigating the world’s largest freshwater lake under our own power is no small feat, and this final leg will test endurance, adaptability, and resolve in a way no other section can.
