Get a Good Night's Sleep Before Camp!
Is this the Full Schedule?
The short answer is yes. However, I could not possible account for every detail. Instead, I have attempted to compile the basic overview of the average day to day at Ockanickon. Keep in mind that the day is not nearly as divided up and rigid as it is presented here. The day is fluid and only some deadlines are absolute (meals and merit badges). Use this as a reference, to remember everything that we do each day.
Early Bird
Early in the morning there is little to do. You do not have to wake up, and you must be quiet. However, there are some things to do, such as:
- Sleep
- Get a jump-start on cleaning.
- Take a shower.
- Morning run.
- Sit around/quietly play cards.
- Polar Bear Plunge!
Morning
Clean up your tent (leave flaps open) or clean up your adirondack, depending on which you are sleeping in. Afterwards, the whole troop or part of the troop will attend breakfast or Muster, the order depending on which breakfast (A or B) we get. The breakfast will follow meal procedures*.
Morning Badges
Attend morning badges according to your schedule. New Scouts will be attending the Dan Beard program. Remember to bring prerequisites, paper and pencil, as well as anything the MB instructors ask you to bring.
Mid-Day Break
After attending your merit badges or Dan Beard, there is a mid-day break. This includes some freetime activities** as well as lunch, which will follow meal procedures*.
Afternoon Badges
The afternoon badges progress very similarly to the morning. However, many scouts finish their badges early
Afternoon
The afternoon has many activities including:
- Freetime activities**
- Open Climbing Tower
- Open Boating
- Open Swim
- Open Shotgun and Archery
- Other open activities.
Evening
Evening comes along with dinner which follows meal procedures* and Retreat. There is also time for freetime activities**. Additionally, several quick merit badges are held, as well as some campwide activities.
Night Owl
Late at night most scouts hang out in their hammocks, tents, and adirondacks. You should have no reason to leave the campsite, and remember to stay quiet. At 10:00 you need to be totally quiet.
Meal Procedures*
Servers will be sent out early to set up the meal. They will then serve food to your table when the rest of the troop arrives. Occasionally, an optional/ choice course will be offered. This involves a token, which your server will trade for more food. Sometimes, especially at dinner, multiple courses will be served. The salad bar is available partway through the meal for you to serve yourself salad, fruits, yogurt, etc. depending on the meal. Drinks are an important part of the meal. After everyone drinks the pitcher of water, servers may get up and get drinks from the drink fountain. Often, servers will mix drinks to create new, interesting flavors. After a delicious meal, the servers will stay after to clean up. Be nice to your servers!
Freetime Activities**
A lot of your time at camp is spent as freetime. Some freetime activities include:
Laying in hammocks, playing music and talking
Playing Ga-Ga Ball - Remember that the camp rules state that hands must be open
- Playing Volleyball
- Playing Nuke'Em
- Participating in camp events
- Sleeping/Napping
