The video footage is "primative" to say the least....there is no audio...but, it allows us to take a look back at this once active speedway. Let's take a look by clicking the YouTube video link to the left and check it out shall we!!!
SPRINGFIELD SPEEDWAY
Also known as “Little Springfield”, Joe Shaheen opened the track up as motor racing was reinstated back into the USA after WWII.
This track was known as a really “racey” bullring that the drivers loved to race on and it drew all the big names around the country.
All sorts of categories would race here from midgets to Sprintcars to modifieds and stocks and was extremely successful the whole way through.
Unfortunately the track was forced to close after Joe’s health deteriorated. The last vehicle to run on this track was the hearse that drove Joe around one last time.
The land was sold off for a Kmart to be built upon it.
