JOLIET MEMORIAL STADIUM
After the war, the Joliet Junior Chamber of Commerce wanted time build a stadium and by 1950, they found the land, started building and in 1951, local football was played at the facility.
Around the outside of the ground was a 1/4 mile track perfect for motor racing and they raced the following year on a cinder track.
In 1953, the drivers were complaining about being hit in the face by the cinder and a layer of clay was added over the top.
Racing began in the start with midget racing and ended up being sanctioned by United Auto Racing Association and saw the likes of Bob Tattersall run regularly.
After the 1963 season, the facility decided to pave the track and then began a mix of both midget racing along with stock cars as well.
Regular racing continued all the way through the 80s and 90s.
The facility had an overhaul during 2009 where it held the last event to concentrate on football and athletics.
