Welcome to our 2020-2021 Virtual Showcase! Our 2nd & 3rd-graders have some wonderful projects to share with you to give you a glimpse of what they have learned this year.
Despite the irregular school year, I am so proud of these 2nd & 3rd-graders who quickly became flexible, autonomous learners willing to adapt to sudden change in education. They have shown so much growth and progress this year...and learned a new skill or two from online learning. Zoom. Screen-Record. Typing Skills...just to name a few!
I am so grateful for how resilient these students have become. We focused on the positives and simple joys of being together at school. We supported one another and celebrated each other's accomplishments. We made the most out of these challenging times and are now better, stronger, and more resilient than ever to face any new challenges ahead.
Our 2nd & 3rd-graders love to perform! While we were unable to do a live Winter Sing performance this year, our class put together a virtual holiday performance of "Sleigh Ride" to bring good cheer to our Trabuco family.
Math and computer science is fun! Our 2nd & 3rd-graders have many opportunities to learn computer science through coding with CodeSpark Foos, Scratch, and Tynker.
Our 2nd-graders applied their understanding of measurement and learned how to code to design a playground for their Ozobot to play in.
Our 3rd-graders applied their understanding of area & perimeter with their coding skills to design a race track for our Great Perimeter Race with the challenge of creating a race track, with an area of 48 square units, that the Ozobot can complete the fastest.
With our new Amplify Science curriculum, our 2nd & 3rd-graders learned to "Think Like a Scientist". For this project, they learned about biomimicry engineering in which engineers research organisms and their traits to solve real-world problems.
What is the solution to removing invasive plants that are harmful to an existing environment? Our junior biomimicry engineers share their solution with their RoboGrazer prototypes, based on their research of a giraffe's traits.
Our new Amplify Science curriculum also integrates writing into science. Students learned how to write a scientific explanation and a scientific argument that answers a question about the natural world with evidence and scientific language.
How does life change throughout history? Our 2nd & 3rd-graders learned how California and its communities have changed over time as people settled into this state. For this project, students learned how their community within Orange County, CA has changed over time.
