Toys and the TV

Serious Play

IMX2020: "Toys & the TV" will be going fully online on the 17th of June. The workshop registration fees will be waived for 2020 as long as participants don't want to attend the main conference.

Please register here. Priority will be given to authors whose position papers have been accepted. Those without a position paper are welcome to choose their favourite position paper and join in conversation that way. We have limited places so if you don't register here (and get confirmation through a calendar invite), there is no guarantee of joining the workshop.

Audiences of the future will have access to a large amount of content and experiences on a wide variety of platforms. Discovering the right "experience" specifically personalised to the needs of younger audience members can be especially difficult. This workshop aims to kick off a special focus on how children might use connected toys and tangibles as part of the TV experience of the future. We want to take advantage of the connected television, as a portal to media resources which have excellent narrative elements, and the connected toy, as a way to encourage children’s curiosity, resilience, and their own agency, to control their consumption of content in a playful way. We hope that this has the secondary, more serious effect, of increasing their own learning targets which is in keeping with parental expectation and the ultimate goal of educational TV programming.

Do read the position papers (which could be read in conjunction with challenges) and the programme.

Important Note: We expect at least one author of each accepted position paper to attend the workshop.

We hope to see you in Barcelona online on the 17th of June, 2020!

You will have to register separately in order to attend the rest of the conference.
