Q. Can anyone become a member of Toyota Toastmasters Club?

A. As long as you are over 18 years old, you can join!

Q. 豊田フレンドシップトーストマスターズのメンバーになるために条件はありますか？

A. 18歳以上であれば、どなたでも参加することができます。

Q. Can I learn English conversation at your club?

A. Toastmasters is not an English conversation class. Instead of "learning English," think of it as "learning public speaking and leadership in English". At our meetings, members not only give a speech, but also take on various roles such as vote counter, timer, evaluator, etc., and conduct the meeting using English. Also, members learn Toastmasters International's educational program "Pathways "in English. There are many opportunities to listen, speak, read, and write in English, so if you work on it voluntarily, you will naturally improve your English skills!

Q. クラブでは英会話を教えてもらえるのですか？

A. トーストマスターズは英会話教室ではありません。「英語を学ぶ」のではなく、「英語でパブリックスピーキングとリーダーシップを学ぶ」と考えてください。例会ではスピーチをするだけではなく、司会進行やタイマー、論評などさまざまな役割を各メンバーが担い、英語で会を進めます。またToastmasters Internationalの教育プログラムであるPathwaysは、英語で書かれた教材です。英語を聞く・話す・読む・書く機会が非常に多いので、自発的に取り組めば自然と英語力の向上につながります。

Q. What are the benefits other than learning public speaking?

A. You can learn general communication skills, regardless of whether you speak English or Japanese. Our members say, "I am now able to speak logically at work" or "I am now able to talk considering the other person's position". Even when speaking with family and friends, you will naturally speak clearly and briefly. Also, creating speeches develop your ability of logical thinking. In Toastmasters, there are many opportunities to manage events such as regular meetings, which will help you acquire leadership skills. In addition, you will interact with people of all ages, professions, and nationalities, which will broaden your human relations.

スピーチを学ぶ以外のメリットはなんですか？

A. 英語・日本語を問わず、コミュニケーション全般の能力が身につきます。会員からは「会議の発言で論理的に話せるようになった」「相手の立場に立った話し方ができるようになった」といった声が聞かれます。家族や友達との会話でも、分かりやすく簡潔な話し方が自然と身につきます。またスピーチ原稿を作ることで、論理的な思考力が養われます。トーストマスターズでは例会をはじめイベント運営の機会も多く、リーダーシップのスキルが身につきます。また、幅広い年齢層・職業・国籍の人々と交流するので、人間関係の幅が広がります。

Q. Your club currently holds the meetings online, but are you planning to hold face-to-face meetings in the future?

A. Yes. All our meetings are held online due to COVID-19 now, but we are planning face-to-face meetings when the situation improves. Another fun event "Cozy Meeting" will continue to be held online after the pandemic.

We have started hybrid meetings that combine face-to-face and online since January 2022.

Q. 現在はオンラインで例会を行っているとのことですが、今後は対面での例会を予定していますか。

A. はい。現在はコロナウィルス感染防止のため、例会はすべてオンラインで行っておりますが、状況が改善したときには対面での開催を予定しております。なお、通常例会とは別に開催しているお楽しみ例会Cozy Meetingにつきましては、コロナ後もオンラインで開催する予定です。

2022年より対面とオンラインを併用したハイブリッド例会を始めました。

A. はい、一同大歓迎です!

Q. Is there anything I am not allowed to do when I join?

A. Toastmasters is a non-profit educational organization, so we ask that you refrain from selling goods, soliciting business or religious activities, or gathering personal information.

Q. 参加時に禁止されていることはありますか?

A. 当クラブは非営利教育団体ですので、物品の販売やビジネス・宗教などの勧誘、個人情報を集める目的でのご参加はご遠慮いただいております。

Q. Are there any other costs in addition to the membership fee?

A. There may be some actual costs if you join social gatherings or events or purchase additional materials. Toastmasters is a non-profit organization, and we fully respect the autonomy of our members. There is no compulsion to purchase additional materials or participate in events. Participation in social gatherings is also optional.

Q. 会費以外に、費用はかかりますか?

A. メンバーとの懇親会やイベントに参加したり、追加で教材を購入する場合は、実費が発生することもあります。しかしトーストマスターズは非営利団体であり、会員の自主性を最大限に尊重しています。追加教材購入やイベント参加の強制等は一切ありません。懇親会への参加も任意です。

Q. I see that there are many other Toastmasters clubs, what is the relationship between them?

A. There are over 220 Toastmasters clubs in Japan (as of June 2021). Each is run by different members and meets at various times and places. Some clubs are active only online. Since online is location-independent, it is possible to join an online club overseas. Once you are a member of one club, you are free to attend meetings of other clubs as a guest (some clubs require eligibility). Several clubs also get together to hold a joint meeting or contest. It is also possible to become a member of more than one club. In Toastmasters, once you become a member, the opportunities and the circle of people are endless, depending on your motivation!

Q. 他にもたくさんのトーストマスターズクラブがあるようですが、どのような関係なのでしょうか?

A. 全国には200以上のトーストマスターズクラブがあります（2021年6月現在）。それぞれ異なるメンバーによって運営され、さまざまな時間や場所で例会が開催されています。また、近年はオンラインのみで活動しているクラブもあります。オンラインは場所を問いませんので、海外のオンラインクラブに入会することも可能です。一つのクラブに会員登録すれば、他のクラブの例会にも自由にゲストとして参加できます（参加資格が必要なクラブもあります）。また複数のクラブが集まって、合同例会やコンテストを開くこともあります。一人で複数のクラブに所属することも可能です。トーストマスターズでは、一つのクラブで会員になると、やる気次第で活動の機会も、人の輪も限りなく広がっていくのです！
