Our dream of starting an urban homestead is finally coming true! What began as a simple vision of growing our own food and living closer to the earth is now taking root—and we couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with you guys!
We’re starting with baby steps, adding on little by little as we grow. From fresh produce and homemade goods to community events and hands-on learning experiences, we’re creating a space that nourishes not just our family, but everyone who visits. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where it leads.
At the heart of our homestead is a deep belief in regenerative agriculture—a way of farming and living that restores the land rather than depleting it. Healthy soils are the foundation of healthy ecosystems, and we strive to build them from the ground up. Through practices like composting, cover cropping, no-till gardening, and fostering biodiversity, we aim to create thriving soil life that supports nutrient-rich food, resilient plants, and a healthier planet.
Regenerative agriculture isn’t just about sustainability—it’s about renewal. It’s about leaving the land better than we found it, creating abundance for future generations, and reconnecting people with the cycles of nature.
This new chapter is both exciting and humbling, and we’re grateful you’re here to be part of it. Join us as we grow, learn, and build a homestead rooted in care for the earth, community, and a more regenerative future. 🌱✨
From Foraging tours showing you what is edible in nature, to in-person experiences that teach you how to start an Urban Homestead, to group outings where we forage through the park and make medicinal teas and discuss benefits and much much more!
Join us for our first event led by Melanie Yukov ! She is a skilled foraging guide, herbalist and health coach and we are SO excited to have her for our first event! She is an amazing teacher and community builder and offers so much knowledge in her classes! To learn more about Melanie and herbalism visit her website https://root2risewellness.org/herbalism/ . This event will be 3 hours total, in a Durham park (details coming soon after registration), where we will have a little nature stroll around the parking while Melanie discusses the wild plants around us and how they can be utilized for food and/or medicine and throws in some history too! It is such a great hands on experience as she encourages you to get personal with the plants, smell them, feel them, know them as knowing nature around you is so beneficial in life. After our nature stroll we will gather for more hands on experience while we make our own medicinal concoction! The plan so far is making immune-building fire cider which is super helpful when you need a quick immune boost. No need to pay for pills or supplements for preventative when you have nature all around you! It will be such a fun day spent with community outside:)
As a bonus she will bring medicinal tea and a baked herbal treat included for all participants:) She will also be providing everything you need like jars and supplies so no need to bring anything, she also provides detailed NOTES for you so you don't have to worry about taking notes at the same time as listening and staying in the present moment. Melanie is AWESOME , there is no doubt you will have a great experience , many people will be new at learning this sort of thing so it is very beginner friendly (Melanie has lots of time for Q&A) and very inviting!
Total for 3-hour workshop, all supplies included: $55
