Residency Determinations Service
Residency Determination Service (RDS) is an online application that determines whether a student classifies as a NC resident. If classified as a NC resident, the student will qualify for in-state tuition at any NC college and/or university.
*NC Residency Determination Service (RDS) MUST be completed before college applications can be submitted
Student Materials:
Use your CFNC Username and password to log in
Social Security Number (SSN)
Date of Birth (DOB)
Parent/Guardian Materials:
Full name and DOB
SSN or ITIN
Driver's License
Registered Vehicles
Tax Information
Voter Registration
Proof of Employment
The Residency Certification Number (RCN) is a unique identifier that RDS assigns to you when you begin the RDS online interview. The RCN is unique to you. It provides confirmation that you have completed the RDS residency determination process. When you apply for admission at any NC college, the college may ask for your RCN in order to request data from RDS concerning your residency status.
DACA and undocumented students are not eligible for in-state tuition
