Education
I completed an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University between 2003 and 2008. I then moved to Colorado and began graduate school in the Electrical Engineering department at the University of Colorado, where I have specialized in the field of Optical Engineering. I earned my Master's in 2011 and my Doctorate in 2014.
Career Plan
I am currently an Instrument Engineer at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space physics. There, I am helping to design, build, align, and calibrate a telescope for NASA. The mission is CLARREO: CLimate Absolute Radiance and Refractivity Observatory.
Additionally, I am teaching courses at the University of Colorado as an adjunct professor. My teaching repertoire includes: a freshman seminar course, an upper level undergrad/graduate level optical system design course, a graduate level optics lab, and a core circuits course for sophomores. As a graduate student, I assisted with several courses, including: electromagnetic fields & waves, linear systems, and the graduate optics lab.
Personal Interests
I like riding bikes, hiking and backpacking with my dog, and various other forms of adventure. I play Dungeons and Dragons. I also like motorcycles and muscle cars; I am currently restoring a 1967 Chevelle Super Sport 396.
Compressed Bio
Here's a compressed version of my bio for introductions at talks, etc.:
Tony Barsic completed an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering at Iowa State University between in 2008, and a Master's and Doctorate in EE at CU Boulder in 2011 and 2014. His specialization is optics and image processing. He is currently teaching courses at the University of Colorado as an adjunct professor (this semester: optical system design and the graduate optics lab). Additionally, Tony is working at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space physics, where he is helping build a telescope for NASA that will go on the International Space Station and look back down at Earth and collect climate data!
