Performance of Possession is an exploration of settler-colonial possession; how it performs itself into permanence through image, voice and infrastructure. Centred on the Snowy Hydro Scheme’s “nation-building” myth, the work explores how political leaders, state media and archival materials stage possession as socially and economically beneficial for the nation. From acts of repetition, selection, omission, authority and framing, a performance of possession is constructed and enacted over and over, until it believes itself to be true.
