This essay aim to develop academic writing skills , learning how to critically appraise the statement ‘Cryptocurrencies are not money’. The essay draw on the relevant material from the lectures and literature to thoughtfully examine the accuracy of the above statement.
The ongoing debate on virtual currency scrutinizes cryptocurrencies' viability as money, evaluating their adherence to monetary functions. In my opinion, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum fails to perform the money function, which is the generally accepted medium of exchange, a reliable store of value, and a stable unit of account. Criticism stems from their low transaction volumes, high volatility, and impracticality for everyday transactions. Hence, I believe these failure to meet these criteria casts doubt on their suitability as viable money.
