Hats for Tom's Walk

14 artists from Leduc Composite High School created their own mental health message through one of Tom's favorite activities - painting clothing!  These hats will be sold at the Tom's Walk table and all proceeds will go to Tom's Walk.

If you are interested in purchasing one today, please email toms.walk4mh@gmail.com and we will help you out!

The minimum amount for each hat is $25. You are welcome to pay more though! :)

Thank you, artists!

I asked the students three questions -

Why did you want to do this project?  What is the message behind your design?  What does mental health mean to you?

I hope you enjoy reading their thoughts.

Aubrey thought the project sounded fun and she thinks supporting mental health is very important.

Her message is mostly how her brain works. It's chaos and colors and shapes for thoughts, but it's fun in a beautiful way.

Mental health is simply a part of life. She hopes to find ways to support those who struggle. Thought that doesn't mean it's always bad. Sometimes it makes it easier to find good people.

Morgan wanted to support Tom's Walk.

Her message is simple - a funky mushroom pattern to brighten up someone's journey.

Mental health is a part of people - whether good or bad, whether safe now or struggling. It's a part of life.

Cloe wanted to do this project to support Tom and others that have mental health issues.

She said that the message behind her design is to be hopeful and follow your dreams.

Mental health means to her that someone is more different from others and stands out.

Kayla wanted to do this project because she feels it is important to speak out about mental health, and honour those who have been lost because of poor mental health.

Flower bloom in the spring, representing how mental health isn't just one thing. It's not linear; it can be more joyful sometimes and less joyful others.

Mental health has anything to do with your thoughts about yourself and the world, and how satisfied you are with your life and the way things are going fo ryou.

Malea wanted to do this project becasue she believes, from personal experience, that spreading awareness is really imporant to her. She hopes that if people are struggling, they find the help they need and she believes that menal health awareness is very imporant.  She wanted to contribute to this project because she hopes it helps multiple people and that they know that they are very much not alone.

"It is okay to be not okay" is something that she thinks about daily. It helps her get through some hard days. She hopes that by others reading that message they also know that it is okay to have hard days because that's what makes you stronger.

Mental health is just as imporant as physical health. It's imporant to take care of your mind even if it's getting help.  It's okay to be looked after and not feel okay.  It's healthy to identify something is wrong and actively trying to help yourself get better!

Kaylan wanted to do this project because she had never painted on cloth before and she's happy she did.

Ying and Yang - wherever there is darkness, there is light. She said that when she was doing this, she was so focused on the light side that she forgot that there was still the dark side.  The Chinese on the rim says "Be Kind to your Mind."

She said that doing activities like this helps her get through the tough times. She likes that she can spread messages to others who are like her and that makes her happy.

Brooke wanted to do this project because she has struggled with her own mental health journey.

She feels the message behind her design is to grow and that growth takes time.

Mental health is very important to her because of her own journey and that of  her friends. We should all be there for each other no matter what.

Scarlet wanted to participate because she believes mental health is a very important topic to her. She knows that lots of people struggle so putting her art into it for a cause was an amazing experience.

Her message is even if the flowers around you don't show themselves and that not everything is always color.

Mental health means a lot to her.
