After the closure of Stitch's Great Escape in 2018, and after the addition of Tron: Lightcycle Run on the other side of the land in 2021, it was decided that the western side of Tomorrowland needed an update. Specifically, the area containing Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, and the aforementioned Stitch's Great Escape. The Team Phoenix imagineers swooped in to propose new experiences that replaced the previously mentioned attractions, as well as new dining and shopping experiences because the team decided that Tomorrowland needed better dining and shopping.
