Sister Ave Maria Foley February 6, 1923 May 11, 2021
We first met Sister Ave Maria Foley in 2012 at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She was an accomplished artist, working in wood, clay and metal and had had an impressive sense of wit.
Sister Ave Maria gave us tours of both the redwood and ceramic Stations of the Cross that she created, behind Our Lady of Peace Residence and on the grounds adjacent to Marywood. This artwork is on record at the Smithsonian:
Sister Ave Maria also showed us the Jesus and Child sculpture that she designed (see photo). We will miss her greatly.
