At the TNP lab, we study the communication between the cardiovascular, immune and nervous systems and leverage the knowledge we gain to treat human disease. We use methods from neuroscience, neural engineering, immunology and cardiovascular medicine to study neuroimmune mechanisms of disease, test neuromodulation interventions and develop treatments for patients with cardiovascular diseases. In parallel, we train scientists and physician-scientists in the emerging field of bioelectronic medicine. We are a group of physician-scientists, scientists and engineers, working in 3 main areas:
Neural regulation of immunity and homeostasis: we study the neural circuits, physiological mechanisms and neuroimmune pathways by which the nervous system senses and regulates immune and metabolic processes and cardiopulmonary functions. ...more info
Precision autonomic neuromodulation: we develop methods to deliver more organ- and function-selective devices that target mechanisms specific to the affected organ(s), often delivered in closed-loop mode. ...more info
Neuroimmune dysfunction and modulation in cardiovascular diseases: we study how neuroimmune dysfunction contributes to the pathogenesis cardiovascular diseases with an inflammatory component, such as pulmonary hypertension, heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias. We also test neuroimmune modulation therapies for the same diseases. ...more info
