MCJROTC stands for Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps. It’s a high school leadership program sponsored by the United States Marine Corps that teaches citizenship, discipline, responsibility, and leadership through a structured curriculum based on Marine Corps values and traditions. There's no military obligation for cadets who participate.
Other than the $25 course fee, as per TISD policy, there are no additional costs to the program. Materials such as: uniforms, textbooks, and equipments and issued to cadets on a loan- basis, free of charge. Some additional payments may be required if uniform is lost or damaged. There may be some other costs, if a cadets decides to join special teams, in which payments may be needed for particular teams.
Absolutely! Many cadets in our program are also involved in other school activities such as band, cross country, robotics, and more. There are no restrictions on what you can or cannot do outside of MCJROTC. In fact, the program encourages cadets to participate in extracurriculars. Our MCJROTC program also offers a variety of optional special teams, including—but not limited to—Raiders, Drill Team, Inspection Team, and Color Guard. Additionally, cadets have opportunities to take part in community service events, military balls, and other enriching activities. While participation in these teams and events is not mandatory, cadets who choose to join are expected to commit and follow through on their responsibilities.
At TMHS MCJROTC, first-year students (LE-I) are not required to cut their hair (for males) or wear the uniform. (Note: Regardless of a student’s academic grade level—freshman, sophomore, etc.—they are considered an LE-I during their first year in the program.) Starting in the second year (LE-II) through the fourth year (LE-IV), cadets are required to wear their uniform every Thursday, unless otherwise instructed. Uniform wear is graded, and cadets are expected to meet grooming and appearance standards. As cadets progress through the program, they earn ranks and awards to display on their uniforms. There are specific uniform regulations that must be followed, including proper appearance, correct wear of the uniform, and respectful interaction when addressing fellow cadets and Marine Corps personnel.
If you're interested in joining JROTC, speak with your school counselor for more information. All students are welcome to join—regardless of grade level. It is not required to start in ninth grade; students can enroll in the program at any point during their high school years.
