Mālō e lelei!
If there is a fire in your house, you need to get out FAST. That is easy during the day, but can you find your way out when it is dark and smoky? What if the door is locked or blocked?
Today, we will make a plan to get out of every room in two ways and practise getting out.
Get your whole whānau involved! Everyone should know this!
Watch this video to learn:
What an escape plan is
How to practise escaping from every room
What to do if it's not safe to climb out of a window
Hot smoke rises to the ceiling so it is colder and easier to breathe close to the floor.
So: Get down! Get low! Get out - FAST!
Get your whole whānau together, go around your house and think about two ways of getting out of every room.
CREATE ACTIVITY
If you still have it from the last activity, draw on your floor plan two escape routes from every room. Then, practise getting out of the rooms.
Can you get out with your eyes closed?
Can you unlock the front door with your eyes closed?
Remember, to take pictures/videos to share with us!
STAY SAFE: Don't climb out of windows if they are high above the ground or if you could hurt yourself doing it!
Practise opening the window instead and say FIRE, FIRE, FIRE (only shout it out loud if there actually is a fire)!
