TLC Proofreading
I identify and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and capitalization.
I make sure names, numbers, and terms stay consistent throughout.
I catch misused, missing, or mixed-up words.
I format numbers properly -- dates, percentages, measurements, addresses, et cetera.
I clean up formatting: Q&A lines, by-lines, parentheticals, spacing, and anything that needs to stay together.
I double-check exhibit numbers, attorney names, firm details, and dates for accuracy.
I confirm business names, medications, brand names, case names, and other specific terms to make sure they're spelled correctly and used accurately.
I use the following reference materials:
Court Reporting: Bad Grammar/Good Punctuation by Margie Wakeman Wells
The Merriam-Webster Dictionary
The Essential 99 Punctuation Rules for Court Reporters by Kenneth Wick
The Gregg Reference Manual
Online research tools such as Google to confirm addresses and spellings
I’ve completed advanced training in transcript proofreading through Proofread Anywhere’s Transcript Proofreading: Theory & Practice course.
The course includes 64 lessons spread over several modules and over 3,100 practice pages from 50 transcripts covering different topics and difficulty levels.
To earn my certificate of excellence, I passed multiple quizzes, a rigorous midterm, and a comprehensive final exam, proving my solid skills and knowledge in transcript proofreading.
Since then, I've proofread hundreds of transcripts and caught thousands of errors.
