Alexandria Allyse Allen is 18 years old. She writes poetry because she has a hard time expressing herself outwardly. She also writes in order to portray not only her own feelings, but the feelings she sees in those close to her as well. This last year almost everything she has written has been about her father, who passed away in April. These writings have allowed her to cope even when grief hits her the hardest, and she hopes they can be helpful to others who read them as well.
Alexandra Burt has been writing as long as she can remember. It all started with writing down street names, highway names, store names, and random words from books when she was little and took car trips. She is interested in writing fantasy, mystery, and word lists. She is studying Creative Writing and hopes to be published one day.
Jocelynn Castro grew up in a military family, so being uprooted and starting a new life became a mandatory part of her childhood. As a result of living overseas, she experienced different cultures and developed an appreciation of people from all backgrounds. While writing creatively, she draws influence from her past. The lesson she values most is that there is beauty and a story within every moment of life... and we only have to be brave enough to look outside ourselves in order to truly see the magnificence that surrounds us.
Johanna Linker is a non-traditional student at GTCC. She is a wife and mother of two. She has been writing poetry for 25 years. She plans to transfer to UNCG to major in psychology and minor in creative writing or American literature. Her career goals are to counsel young adults, to teach and to write.
Walker Martin loves photography and taking good pictures of his friends. Most if not all of his pictures are taken when he am out with other people just having a good time. He hopes to one day be able to travel and document all that he does in a really professional way. He's good with photography but if he were to want to improve anywhere it would be in making videos, he just feels like that’s the next step for him in terms of creativity. Rene Marzuk is currently pursuing an Associate in Arts degree at GTCC. He is thirty-four years old and grew up in Cuba. He lives in High Point, North Carolina.
Katelyn Walker, age twenty, has been writing fictional stories since she was nine years old. Born and raised in North Carolina, she now resides in Tennessee with her husband, surrounded by peaceful mountains and lots of good books.
Janice Walton is a studying photography student. As a Fine Arts: Visual Arts major, she is very excited for people to see her work. She works in multiple media, but her home-base is digital work.
Taniesha Williams is a non-traditional transfer student who enjoys Mathematics, Philosophy, meeting people and learning new skills. She also enjoys creating photos and dabbling in poetry. She writes on a variety of topics. Upsy Turvy Whimsical Whirl was a short poem she created to empower young girls (and older girls!), encouraging them that it’s okay to be a girly girl, to be free to be and enjoy their femininity.
